List From A-Z, Terms used in computers in the last 20 years.
A – Adobe – American software company. Includes Photoshop etc.
B – Broadband - High-speed transmission over the internet.
C – Connection - A connection between two peer applications or higher layer protocols mapped onto a channel.
D – Disk - A magnetic storage medium on which data is digitally stored.
E – Email - Electronic mail. Mail composed and transmitted on a computer system or network.
F – Formatting - Formatting is organising and marking the surface of a disk into tracks, sectors and cylinders. It is also sometimes a term used to signify the action of writing a file system to a disk
G – Graphic Card - Designed to convert a logical representation of an image stored in memory to a signal that can be used as input for a display medium.
H – Hard drive - A rigid non-removable disk in a computer and the drive that houses it.
I – Internet - A network of computer networks which operates world-wide using a common set of communications protocols.
J – Joystick - An input device used for video games and for some graphics applications.
K – Keyboard - An input device similar to a typewriter, for the entry of text, numbers and punctuation.
L – Laptop - Small portable computer.
M - Motherboard – The heart of the PC, it handles system resources as well as core components like the CPU and all system memory.
N – Networking - Network occurs any time you connect two or more computers together so that they can share resources.
O – Online – Connected to a network.
P – Processor - The part of the computer that controls the execution of program instructions.
Q – Quicktime – A media player
R – RAM – Stands for Random Access Memory. Type of computer storage whose contents can be accessed in any order.
S – Software - Coded instructions (programs) that make a computer do useful work.
T – Troubleshooting - Strategies used to define and solve problems encountered while using information technology tools.
U – Upgrades - This represents a large change to a program.
V – Virus - A dangerous computer program with the characteristic feature of being able to generate copies of itself, and thereby spreading.
W – Windows - An operating system with a graphical user interface
X – XP – A version of Windows.
Y – Yahoo – A popular search engine on the internet.
Z – Zip – A file to compress it into an archive so that it occupies less disk space.
